The PC version of the application was also updated to run under the same operating system (MS-DOS). In 1986, the Apple IIe version of AutoCAD was released for the Macintosh. A version was also released for the TRS-80 Model II in 1985.īy this time, the application’s name had been changed from Microfield Sketchpad to AutoCAD, and the name of the computer on which the app ran on was changed from the Apple II to the Apple IIe. The first commercial release of AutoCAD 1.0 was in December of 1982 for the Apple II, Commodore 64, and IBM PC in the form of a cassette tape (see link on the right).īy the time of the Macintosh’s introduction, the application had been redesigned as a desktop app with early versions running on an internal driver on Apple II, II+ or IIe computers and on Motorola 6800 microprocessors.
